Communities Through Education & Sustainability
Education lies at the heart of PESAP. Recognizing that education is a powerful tool for transformation, PESAP works tirelessly to ensure that every pastoralist child—regardless of gender, background, or geographical location—has access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education.
In many pastoralist communities of Marsabit County, children often face barriers such as mobility, poverty, long distances to schools, and cultural practices that limit school attendance. PESAP addresses these challenges through targeted programs and community-driven solutions that make learning accessible and relevant to pastoralist livelihoods.
Through school feeding initiatives, mentorship programs, and community engagement forums, PESAP encourages parents to enroll and retain their children in school. The organization also supports learning materials distribution, awareness creation, and advocacy for child rights and gender equality in education. Special attention is given to girls’ education, as empowering girls directly impacts the social and economic resilience of pastoralist families.
In partnership with local schools, government departments, and education stakeholders, PESAP promotes climate-smart education that integrates environmental awareness, adaptation skills, and sustainable development principles into the curriculum. By linking education with real-life challenges such as drought management, tree planting, and sustainable grazing, PESAP ensures that learning remains practical and impactful.
